I preordered this book awhile ago but I am confused about how the author is publishing this Brocade series. We get a new book like this one but in between we get rereleases with new names.+++Spoilers+++
Here our h is married off to the H on the whim of the queen because she is her ward. The h has been widowed and because she wears heavy veils for mourning no one knows how beautiful she is. There are loads of rumours about how old and ugly she is and the H believes all of them. He on the other hand is a favourite of the queen and quite a ladies man and obviously very gorgeous. He is pretty awful to the h when they first get married and I really disliked him for a good part of the book. The h continued to hide behind her veils but then appears as a servant to the H. This went on for way too long and created doubts about who the H really loved. The author may have been trying a little too hard to be clever here. I found myself going back and rereading bits and it spoilt the flow for me.
Having said all of this - a slightly disappointing book by this author is still way better than a lot of the drivel out there

Bessie Historical Romance Novel The Brocade Collection Book 6 edition by Jackie Ivie Romance eBooks Reviews
Excellent plot and characters. Keeps you guessing and at the edge of your seat to the end. Will recommend and definitely read again.
When you have had three husbands all die and leave you very rich one might think men would flock to you to take your hand in marriage. This is not true for Bessie as is is felt she brought death to each man that lie beside her and money is not worth the risk. Now the worst of fates has happened when the Queen forces her to take a another husband who by marriage has become Lord Devon Hildebrand. Devon has been the Queen's favorite subject for a number of years who somehow became her least liked which is the only reason he can imagine being forced to a marriage to a woman with a horrid reputation and a refusal to show her face. Devon wonders what she must look like behind the widow's veil that Bessie refuses to remove and if the rest of his life he will be shackled to a stubborn woman and the little bit of land he gained the Queen bestowed upon him.
What Bessie is keeping a secret, for now is she has wealth beyond Devon's dreams but his inability to see past his own needs is causing her hold back what the true value she brings to this marriage. The problem is while he cannot fully see her she has had the amazing pleasure to see all of her and the sight of him is beyond wonderful and every part of her pulses with excitement when he is near and even the mere accidental brush of his hand upon her causes goosebumps.
Bessie has conceived of a plan to reveal herself to test his loyalty by letting him see her but not know who she is, ill thought out but determined she finds that he is drawn to the woman she pretends to be. Time and again she tests him to understand what kind of man he is and while he shows some weakness for her flesh what Devon also surprises her with is an ability to respect the faux Bessie but her secret it appears is also his as the revelation that he may know that the temptation she is presenting is one he is married to.
WHAT HAPPENS when a widown is forced to marry the queens favorite .
also was it planned by the queen . did the queens favorite do something wrong or was the queen wanting to have two people come together the widow being her ward and the man who is her favorite . can love bloom and can these two come to terms on how they were wed . find this and much more also what happens when the queens ward meets her husbands family and more importantly the queen meets the family . find out by buying or using KU .
I usually read the previews to see whether or not the story and characters might appeal to me before I download. This book's preview fooled me.
Spoilers follow
The heroine, Bessie, is one of the queen's attendants. queen arranges a forced marriage between Bessie and the handsome but apparently dim-witted Devon whose only purpose at court seems to be aimed at using his physical beauty to win favors from the queen in order to win wealth and a title. Bessie has been forcibly married three time previously at the queen's command. All previous marriages had been to older men who quickly left her widowed with vast wealth and estates. For me here's where the book started to fail. Bessie chooses to where ugly clothes to hide her figure and keep her face hidden by a heavy veil to hide her beauty because she's been forced into the marriage and Devon has a reputation in court as being a promiscuous courtier. After the marriage, Devon wants nothing to do with Bessie because he is convinced he was forcibly married to an old crone. The author chose to turn Bessie into a simpering conflicted mess who secretly lusts after Devon while verbally lashing out at him to keep him at arm's length. At this point, the book could have become interesting. Instead, this story just became boring. As a reader, I just couldn't find many redeeming qualities in either of the characters. Devon just seemed to be an immature 24 year old who traded his good looks for preferential treatment - not an endearing quality in the supposed Hero. Eventually, the author tried to excuse away this character defects but by then Devon's character was already ruined for me. Bessie as a 21 year old seemed way too mature for him but acted too willful and childish for me to sympathize with her and/or even care whether there would be a happy ever after for them. Finally, I just got bored with the whole story line. That said, I simply couldn't force myself to finish this book. As an avid reader with well over 800 titles in my library, I can honestly say only about 5 percent of the books in my library have been placed in my "not worth finishing" category. Sorry, author, but this book just didn't do it for me and it is unlikely I will bother to read any other books by this author.
I would love to see more in this series as I could not wait to read each one
very exciting and interesting
