Great Book!!! This book is just one of many (Little Golden Books)I bought for my Granddaughter for her Birthday (2 yrs. old). She just loves to be read to at all times of the day and at night when it's bedtime! These books are great books to hand down through generations. That's what we did in my family. Myself and my brothers and sisters had probably just about every (Golden Book) made, and we left them at Mom and Dad's house and all the grand and great grand kids have used them and finally after all these years they are to worn out and some have even had to be thrown away. But, there are still some in pretty good shape that are still floating around through the family. I've decided that is and was a good family tradition, so I have restarted it again with my Grandson who is now going to be 12 this year and he is my younger daughters son, and I am doing it again with my older daughter's children which is my granddaughter as of right now and a grandson due in August. Hopefully they will do as we did and hand them down to their children in the years ahead. Great Books and a whole lot of enjoyment from reading them through the years!!!!!

This book was used as decoration for a baby shower where we used a firehouse theme. I also love the story so the little book was also a gift. Even though it was vintage it was in like new condition.
This is long enough to tell the story but short enough to keep young readers engaged without distracting them with excessive detail.

Depending on how inquisitive your young reader is, you may find yourself searching your memory or online for character names (Cruella's henchmen, Jasper and Horace, are not named in this book) or to explain some parts of the book.
I convene a church book group and we read a classic each year. The original novel of The 101 Dalmatians fit the bill and we were able to purchase copies at a reasonable price in an excellent edition. The story is well known to many of us, thanks to the Disney film and other products that have been released since the book was first published in the 1950's. But the novel itself is very worth reading! This is a story that adults, as well as children, will enjoy. I recommend it with five stars!
Always a fun book to read. Can't go wrong with a Disney book for the little ones. My 2 year old will love it!
Read this years ago as a child. Now I was excited to buy it for my granddaughter. Like many classics, the book has a charm that even the best movie adaption can't match. It's a wonderful read aloud treat, or perfect escape reading. Sometimes when you revisit a childhood favorite, the magic just isn't the same, but 101 Dalmations is just as enchanting at 55 as it was at 12.
Wonderful book...so much better that the movie! I buy this for the youngsters in my life. They all love it I love it too and reread it when I want to smile and feel good. I recommend this book for everyone. Dodie Smith is an excellent writer for girls - I also recommend her book, "I Capture the Castle."
As with many classic works that Disney "recreated" -- this is a prime example of why I usually don't like the movies.

There is so much charm, warmth and character development that Disney missed. Or eliminated. The stories of
Pongo and Missis (his wife in the book) met; Perdita's story; the backstory of Cruella and her husband. The charm
of the search for the puppies .... so many, many ways a wonderful and touching story was turned into another
Disney "romp" full of chase scenes and vaudeville touches.

It saddens me that books like this and others have been popularized by movies and people think they "know" the
book. They don't.

Disney is fine in many ways, but books like this one, The Wind in the Willows, and the Pooh books should be off limits
for movie makers.
