The author advertises Jane Austen-inspired sweet historical romance, so when I started reading her new release, Proper Attire, I was expecting a Pride and Prejudice-like story. Let me tell you, this is not your Grandma's Jane Austen story. Imagine if Jane refused to marry a wealthy old man she did not love, was sent away to the West Indies, attacked by pirates, rescued by a handsome, mysterious stranger she doesn't know if she can trust and then shipwrecked. This is a story that hooked me from page one, it was at least Chapter Five before I felt like I should really put the book down for a minute to take a break. It's a clean romance that Austen would adore, but it also has a healthy dose of adventure and excitement. Proper Attire is a cute name for it. There are so many types of clothes in the story. Julia and her handsome rescuer go through a lot of wardrobe changes and it will really make you think about how the clothes people wear influence our impressions of them. She sees the man she knows only as "John Smith" in dirty, pirate-like apparel, scantily clad clothing the island natives deem as 'proper' in their culture, and then, once she finally reaches her destination in Antigua, she sees him again differently. Smith dons the professional clothes of a business man and even formal attire for a ball. Needless to say, neither Julia nor the reader can figure out who he really is for quite some time. What we know for sure, he won't let pirates, island natives or an ambitious suitor keep him away from Julia. This book won't leave you feeling disappointed.

Proper Attire A Regency Romance Clean Wholesome edition by Danielle Thorne Mary Royle Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
The other day I was searching the internet for a story about an adventure with a stranger that did not have sex scenes in it. I know what a specific plot to look for lol.
This book was categorized and reglious historical romance on an ebook suggestion site so I got it and I'm glad I did. What an adventure poor Julia endured but what a sweet ending. I will definitely buy more from this author
I wish it was longer so I could have more time with Julia.
Proper Attire is another sea and island adventure/romance. This is the third sea adventure I've read by Danielle Thorne. As with all her novels I've read, this one shows her knowledge of ships, clothing and scenery of the settings. We follow Julia Scott through many happenings. Immediately we're drawn into excitement and death threatening situations for Julia at sea. On the romance side there are two men in pursuit of her. Captain Dewey and Mr. Greenway are two different personalities. As you read this novel you will see the significance of the title "Proper Attire." Julia is cast off by her step mother and after a perilous voyage she arrives in Antigua, an island in the Caribbean. She anticipates hooking up with Admiral Hammond, her uncle.
Captain Dewey, a young captain, and Mr. Greenway, who has been with her through the voyage and on the island, are the two men in her life. Which one will win her hand?
One of my favorite phrases in the novel referred to a ship at sea as "a swaying pile of timber." Ms. Thorne is a master at descriptions as you will appreciate through her references to the beautiful gowns, floral settings and sea scenery. The emotions are shown through her gifted ability to use dialogue. Her novel deserves a five star rating and high recommendation.
Miss Julia Scott flees from her stepmother who is demanding she marry a wealthy older man. While traveling to visit her uncle, she is attacked by pirates. A mysterious man on board rescues her and they flee the ship together. Once on land, her mysterious rescuer takes her stay with his relative and then is pursued by another suitor.
I was drawn to the story from the very beginning, The hero is mysterious and intriguing. An enjoyable novel I would read again. Clean romance, I just wished it was a little bit longer & expanded more on the hero.
I have never read a Danielle Thorne book I didn't like, but out of all of her novels, this one is my favorite. Short enough to read in one sitting, but well worth the read. The characters are well fleshed out and realistic. The author masterfully describes the setting, gowns, scenery, and her characters. I love her vivid descriptions and colorful phrases. They make it worth reading the book. Julia Scott, the main character, is deceived by her stepmother who ships her off to be rid of her when she refuses to marry a man three times her age for his money. Julia is stifled by the woman and ordered around like a servant, but when she is set free in a vast ocean, she shows courage and determination. No way would she marry a man she didn't love. She'd run away first, if she had to. Mr. Greenway comes to her rescue more than once. He's handsome, reliable, loyal, and a tease with eyes as green as the ocean. Proper attire is a great title for this one, and you'll see why when you read it. I love the title, the characters, the plot, and the entire book. It drew me in as soon as I started reading and wouldn't let me go until I finished it. I didn't want to stop reading until I found out what happened between Julia, Mr. Greenway, and handsome Captain Dewy, a blue-eyed devil, dashing and handsome, but not so pretty on the inside. Julia is naive and believes most of anything anyone tells her at first, but by the end of the novel, she grows wise enough to see through people. I love the setting and sea descriptions, and the author made me feel like I was in that boat stranded in the vast sea with nothing to see but water. She is a master at turn of phrases and vivid description, which I love. Don't miss this one. It's romance and a sea adventure rolled into one. I'm glad I didn't pass this one up. Grab your copy while you can so cheap because it's worth more. I'd had paid more for it. You'll see why after reading it. This book swept me away to another world.
